Getting Organized
Day 1
Eat breakfast. This is the best tip we can give you for getting today and every day off to the best start. Failing to nourish your body is going to zap you of the precious time and energy you're going to need this holiday season.
Day 2
Think you have no time? If you think it, you're right. Perception is reality. If you keep telling yourself you don't have enough time in the day, then you'll never have it. Change the way you talk to yourself about time and you'll find time beginning to work in your favor.
Day 3
Feeling guilty about things you didn't get done today. Fact is, sometimes stuff doesn't get done. Let it go. Worrying about everything we should have done doesn't help us get tasks accomplished now. Guilt works against us and actually works to promote procrastination.
Free the guilt!
Day 4
Okay, this might sound weird coming from a couple of Internet entrepreneurs and online radio pioneers, but stop wasting your precious time surfing. If you're spending a lot of time online, break yourself of the Internet zone by getting up out of your chair every 10 to 15 minutes. This also works if you have a desk job and spend a lot of time at your desk. Breaking the monotony is a great way to stimulate your brain and body which helps boost energy and either keep you on task or move to a more productive task.
Day 5
Start each day with a plan. Write down your daily goals the night before. For example, tonight before your sweet little head hits the pillow write down the goals you wish to accomplish tomorrow. Doing this as much as possible every night is a great way to get and stayed organized.
Day 6
Do you have your list? No more going to the grocery store or running errands without a list. The "listless" gals spend more time, waste more money, and expend more precious energy than the gal who shops with a list.
Day 7
Yesterday we suggested making sure you have your list when going shopping and running errands.
Today, we're suggesting a running task list. Here are a couple of great websites for helping you put together your to-do lists.
Day 8
Let go of the idea that you have to be a great multi-tasker. Multitasking is, in our opinion, a big fat lie that we all tell each other. It is true that as mothers we must often do more than one thing at a time... but that doesn't mean we are that great at it. Truth is, mom or not, we all do something better when we do one thing at a time. Don't let anyone pressure you into trying to be fabulous at everything at once.
Day 9
What would your teacher say? Do you utilize time wisely? Just keeping your third grade teacher in the back of your mind will help keep you on track.
Day 10
Find a home for all that stuff on your countertops. Start with your kitchen countertop and then move on to the next place where piles seem to mount. In fact, everything in your home should have a home. The corner of the kitchen, however, is a great place to start today.
Day 11
One of the best ways to get and stay organized is to avoid the daily grind. Carve out time during each day to do something you enjoy. A simple walk around the block, a few minutes watching the sunset, a 20 minute nap (it is possible--sometimes!) A few moments for you is energizing and great way to help you enjoy the upcoming holidays.
Day 12
Try to keep your phone conversations short and to the point, unless it's someone you really want to talk to and connect with. It's okay to let phone calls go to voicemail. Taking messages and making callbacks when you have the time is a great way to manage time.
Day 13
No that we've spent the past 12 days going over some of the getting organized basics... it's time to step it up. You may or may not already be doing this... walking through the world with an organizer. If you don't have one, it's time to get one. An organizer is as essential as a handbag. A purse carries your money and a lipstick, an organizer carries your time...and, time is everything.
Day 14
Get rid of that extra weight... yes... we're talking about that extra junk you're carrying around in your purse and your car. Clear your purse and help clear your mind :)
Day 15
Tell it like it is. If you don't have time for a project or a committee, then say so. The reality is there is only so much time in a day and you are one person. Taking on more than your fair share is going to simply cause you more stress and lead to more disorganization and that's not fun for you or anyone around you. Trust us on this one! We know from experience :)
Day 16
Listen to your biorhythms... what are they saying? Do you naturally have more energy in the morning or the afternoon? When you make that list of goals tonight try to write next to them the time of day to complete them, schedule high-energy tasks for high-energy times of day and low-energy tasks for those lazier times of day.
Day 17
Running late is an organizational killer. If you're in the bd habit of always running behind, it's time to change. Running late tells you and the world that you're not in charge of time, time is in charge of you, save being fashionably late for a cocktail party.
Remember, when you're always late to appointments it signals to the other person that their time is not as important as yours. Everyone's time is valuable.
Day 18
Flex Your Ability...
One of the best tips for getting and staying organized is to stretch your body and mind and be flexible. By embracing flexibility we're able to let go of the unrealistic expectations of others and ourselves. Here's to flexibility!
Day 19
Better Done than Perfect:
Remember this motto when you're feeling like you always need to be the perfect woman. We already think you're perfection in motion!
Day 20
Don't get caught just inhaling...Remember to exhale.
Breathe and relax your shoulders.
Enjoy this moment. Enjoy today.
Hug your babies.
Day 21
You never know what's going on in someone else's world...
And they don't know what's going on in yours.
Don't take everything personally.
Enjoy every moment as much as possible.
Breathe.
Be flexible.
And, love....
